When you’re playing at the level of a John McCain or Barack Obama, pretty much everything you do on the campaign trail is designed to highlight a virtue you possess or enhance your credibility on an issue. It’s a very scripted, pre-planned life, where as little as possible is left to up to chance in order to minimize awkward experiences and photos.
So when I saw this image of John McCain over the weekend sitting with evangelical leader Billy Graham and his son Franklin, the first thing I noticed was that freakin’ upholstery.
It dominates the picture — and you better believe those seats were picked out specifically for the money photo-op; so I ask, how does the cross-hatched, dyed pattern of dark plaid speak to you, as an American?
