MYSPACE ASKS: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN…WRITE POLITICAL COMMENTARY?

By shadow campaigner

Ever since Facebook started showing Myspace its ass, and people saw where all the smart kids were sitting, Rupert Murdoch’s social networking site has been desperately fighting to stay relevant.

The latest maneuver comes by way of Myspace teaming up with NBC News and MSNBC.com up to offer one lucky user the chance to be a “citizen journalist” during this summer’s Republican and Democratic National Conventions. The gig comes complete with full press credentials and Myspace’s Decision 2008 channel as an venue for his/her reporting.

All you have to do is be at least 18 years old and submit a short video that answers one of the following questions:

  1. “Why do you vote?”
  2. “Why are you the best person for this job?”
  3. “How will you stand out in the crowd and get the scoop no one else can?”

Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” as well as Tom Anderson and Lee Brenner of MySpace, will pick top five finalists from the pre-screened vids. Then the “Myspace community” will choose the winner in a sort of “political idol” moment.

No doubt a fight will break out among the screening team as to who gets the video submissions for question number 3. With all the freaks and hoes out there on Myspace I might even toss my hat in the ring for a chance to first-cut those babies.
