Oh, come on. The guy gets a lot of lashing about, but honestly, he’s got personality and he loves his troops/countrymen. I have to tell ya, I appreciate that about him. He’s willing to stand firm despite many opposing the war on terror, willing to look like a terrible president. Bottom line is, he doesn’t care because he’ll do what’s right for the US and other countries. I am proudly one of the few that see him for what he is and appreciate his appreciate and willingness to be himself even with cameras turned on.
Those that get offended by this, get the stick out of your butt and stop being such a stiff.

maybe not necessary but so what….he is a real human being who shows his feelings and i love that about him….love that he did this. whoever would complain about this needs to lighten up, not everything about this man needs to be analyzed….sheesh

It’s amazing how the Commander-in-Chief gets to act childish while his country is undoubtedly and shamefully losing yet another war in the name of spreading his disgustingly distorted “democracy” (a fact that the recruits in these pictures are apparently and foolishly forgetting – or disavowing), the economy finds itself in a precarious state and his GOP is certainly on its way to losing the elections in November (thanks to W. and his pals)… It is no wonder America has lost its global prestige. It will continue to do so unless the American people wake from their ignorant slumber and get themselves out of the pernicious morass that the blatantly imperial and avaricious W. Administration has placed them into.

Thank you Tomas! Well said.
June 4, 2008 at 3:04 pm |
Find a dictionary for all those words tomas? It doesn’t matter if Bush cures cancer and AIDS, while making peace with the radical islams, the liberal media will always put him into a disheartened light. Yes, the economy is down, but to say we are losing another war without looking up what is actually going on, is ignorant. If you can’t find the heart to fight for who is fighting for you, move to canada where your agenda makes more sense. Everyone is so willing to point blame everywhere, but no one asks themselves what they can do, or if they could do it better. What is your big scheme to settle the middle east? What is your major plan to lower gas prices? How about the housing market. There is an ebb and flow to the economy, and people see who is in charge and blame them for it, there is nothing a single president can do about it.

Thanks Jimmy! Bush is just caught up in the “EB AND FLOW OF HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSTORRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY” I feel so enlightened.

It’s just a chest bump. I don’t see what’s the big deal.
June 5, 2008 at 10:13 am |
I thought it was kinda odd.
June 5, 2008 at 10:13 am |
…and my husband thought it was cool.
June 5, 2008 at 10:19 am |
It’s the President. That’s “the big deal”.
June 5, 2008 at 10:27 am |
That’s very odd looking. He’s the President but he’s chest bumping a marine which isn’t a way to show that person respect even though he’s not trying to be disrespectful
June 5, 2008 at 10:39 am |
I in fact heard that at a recent press conference at his ranch, Bush began beating his chest in front of reporters and yelled, “I am the President! GRAA!!!”.
I’m not lying either, look it up.
I agree with JP, not the best president ever, but at least he’s got a personality.
June 5, 2008 at 10:43 am |
I’m and ex marine from the Viet Nam era? i have to say that before I criticize this guy so that my patriotism is not questioned ( these past 8 years that is the first thing that is questioned when one criticises this knucklehead), I wish that folks would stop questioning our patriotism when we question our president? that is what we are suppose to do? if we don’t, we end up lock step behind the fuhrer , following him over a cliff like the lemmings we have become
George Bush is a Knuckle head ! he was a knuckle head when he was a kid , He was a knuckle head when he was in college , he was knucklehead when he was supposedly a business man, and he proved it beyond a show of doubt as the president of this great country.
Get over it ? its embarrassing to see people defend a knuckle head.
June 5, 2008 at 10:44 am |
Odd that people will defend anything Bush says or does, because he is fighting a war on terror. Does this mean he arrests nightmares? Terror is a concept that cannot be defeated with military weapons or soldiers. Many of the terrorists can be killed, along with many innocents as well. It doesn’t matter, because killing terrorists will not stop terror, or other terrorists. We were not attacked by Iraq, nor did that country, or terrorists based there attack threaten us. There were no more terrorists in Iraq than there were in England, but we choose to invade and occupy that country in the name of freedom and democracy. News flash Bush supporters: the unsanctioned invasion of other countries, disbanding of their military and government, and continuous occupation, is neither freedom nor democracy. We have tarnished the very ideas of freedom and democracy, and continue to degrade our own country, our own ideals, and our own system of government while we occupy these countries. Contrary to the doublespeak of Bush supporters, those who oppose these occupations do not support terror. It is the USA which is promoting and using terror, and we would like to see that end.

It’s childish and very unbecoming any State Official, much less the President of the United States.
Not to mention that cadet. I’m assuming he didn’t do that with every cadet graduating that day. What was this guy doing that made Bush consider this was an acceptable gesture? If I was Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, I would reprimand the cadet for his behavior.
Apparently, though, he wasn’t the only one.
There’s more “endearing” pictures at the Huffington Post.

I’m really ashamed of this.
I thought Bush was supposed to bring dignity and honor back to the office, after Clinton’s intolerable conduct in Office?

Hey, this is just one more in a long line of gaffes unbecoming the leader of the free world. Remember the bird dropping on his suit that he wiped off with his fingers??!! Then there was him looking for WMD under desks and chairs in a speech. Doing a jig while waiting for McCain. Falling off a bicycle. Dancing with Rove in Sao Paulo to disco music.
Cheney too – shooting a friend while hunting. His surly face and attitude.
This administration is just too jocular to take seriously as an important presidency. A laugh a minute if it weren’t so sad….
June 5, 2008 at 1:20 pm |
While I agree that this is awesome and those that complain about this really need to lighten up, the complaint that the “liberal media” would be slanted against Bush if he made peace with the terrorists and found a cure for AIDS is laughable. Bush is so far from doing something akin to those that the comment is asinine.
June 6, 2008 at 10:46 am |
wow. For those who think he loves the troops and supports or stands behind them, why the hell are he and his fellow GOPers slashing veterans’ benefits, not to mention sending them to a BS occupation invasion without the necessary equipment/armor?
What a clown.

Hey “Ivan Krakow” above…
If you had actually been a Marine, you wouldn’t use the term “ex-marine”.
No such thing, and no Marine believes there is. It’s one of those subtle distinctions that tend to go over the heads of 99.9% of civilians. Nice try at a lie, though.

I was at the graduation ceremony – and it was terrific. Quite often, the honored guest only shakes hands with the top 100 in the class and then sits down. But, this Commander-in-Chief saluted each graduate and then gave them a personal greeting.
This is a warm human being CELEBRATING with his troops for a job well done. These graduates, like those of West Point and Annapolis, have worked hard and endured much to reach graduation day. And they have earned their celebration. The ceremony had all the pomp that was needed. Maybe you just had to be there… but, I think that this was one day that President Bush, the Commander in Chief, got it right. I know that the graduates and their families that I talked to thought so.
There were over 1000 graduates – and President Bush was as warm and friendly to the last name announced as he was to the first one.
Yes, it is our right and our duty as citizens of this country to question our leader’s policies. But, don’t confuse policy with a commander celebrating with his troops. Patton’s troops loved him, but his policy was to allow no one to claim “battle fatigue” – remember he slapped a soldier claiming that— today, we recognize PTSD or “battle fatigue” as a serious issue – so, do we condemn Patton celebrating with his troops for a battle won? No, history separates them. So, lets give W a break here. I witnessed a very fine graduation ceremony. Congratulations class of 2008.

YOU GUYS ARE STUPID. Bloggynight, each cadet, as celebration for their graduating asked the president to take a picture with them as they walked across. One had Bush call his mom, one did the chest bump, one female cadet flexed muscles with him. This was about the graduates, not bush! President Bush was being gracious and doing whatever the cadets asked during their special moment. So actually know whats going on before you say something, because you bashers who don’t know what is going on in the picture and make irrational wild arguments about this is why the US is hated is stupid.
And Tomas you just said alot of big words with no meaning. So people aren’t allowed to have fun now because something serious is going on in the world. Come on. I’m sure the Australian prime minister, doesn’t cheer for his soccer team when they are playing because there troops are in East Timor and that would be inappropriate to be happy during a serious time. Come on.
And for you to bash the US and this young man in one of the happiest moments of his young life is ridiculous not to mention your arguments are irrelevant to intelligent conversation.

Hey Jimmy. Aren’t we going a little over-the-top with the “Bush curing AIDS and making peace with ‘radical muslims’” comment? Heck, at this point, I’d settle for him not sinking trillions of dollars, that MY generation (and my children for that matter) is going to spend the rest of our lives paying for, into the clusterf*#k that is Iraq. At this point, the truly spectacular thing for Bush to do would be to try to not sink this country into the abyss it’s already in. But in response to your post:
1. If we’re not “losing a war in Iraq”, then what to do YOU call it.
2. The war in Iraq is no longer (whether it EVER was is a subject for debate) about “fighting for Americans”. It’s about trying to keep a disaster from descending into utter chaos.
3. I’m not supporting the blame game, but the buck has to stop somewhere. And seeing how George Bush pretty much single-handedly started the war in Iraq, I’d say he’s rather responsible.
4. What’s my “big scheme to settle the Middle East”? Numero Uno would be to NOT START REGION-DESTABILIZING WARS THERE.
5. Concerning gas prices: for starters, how about we start giving the same fuel subsidies to Americans that we’re giving to the citizens of Iraq?
6. House market: I agree with you here, this is something that we really can’t blame Bush for.
Would I be a good president? Probably not. But I’d at least try to keep the catastrophic physical, diplomatic, and economic damage to a minimum.
And Tim, we’re not allowed to have fun now? Could’ve fooled me. We’re fighting this war on credit: we haven’t really had to make any significant sacrifices yet (American and Iraqi lives aside). What did Bush tell us to do during the hayday of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. I believe he told us to go shopping. But just you wait, the real “not having fun” is going to start sometime in the near future. And I think we’re not going to be “having fun” for a long, long time.

he looks like an even bigger moron than usual.
June 10, 2008 at 1:35 pm |
Bush is the man–he has been bashed for sticking to what is right. Thank god Lincoln didn’t give in to his critics during the Civil War, or that the Patriots were willing to see the big picture and not back down when the Revolution looked bleak. How many times have we been attacked since 9/11? Thankfully Bush has taken the fight to them instead of cowering like all the liberals want. Check the history books guys–war presidents are heavily criticized, but then after years pass you see the intelligence of their actions. We got out of Vietnam…and now it is a huge scar. Bush will be viewed as a great president by your kids and grandkids.

Give me a break people. I think the people above have summed up my views, but jesus christ. Rain on someone else’s parade. The president is celebrating with the graduates, who look ecstatic. Elected officials are not supposed to be perpetually somber during wartime.
