Because people don’t give fat people enough grief already, the BBC ran an article today titled, “Obese blamed for the world’s ills.”

According to experts fatties are contributing to the world food crisis and climate change.

But really, how much could they be eating? The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine calculated food junkies eat 18% more calories than average. Which, OMG, is probably the reason they are fat.

Delving deeper, the article uncovers (and I have actually heard this used by fatists and anti-porkites before) our tubby ass friends use more fuel to carry their junk in the trunk. This in turn drives up food prices in transport and agriculture, both which use oil.

Also, researchers said obese people are likely to rely on transport more and put more strain on that transport because of their mass, which again drives up prices and usage.

Now, you can choose to believe all this and I am sure that some of it is true.  I’m sure fat people cause a lot of problems-just look at Mr. Don’t Fuck on The First Date, how many hearts has he and will he break?  But you know what, I am more than a bit skeptical about the claims made by this article.

Why?  Some people with higher metabolisms eat a lot and I am sure those gajillion people overpopulating China might have something of an appetite.

As for oil prices, we could probably do a bit better on our relationship with those Middle Eastern countries we are so fond of starting wars with.

And as to the public transport, I am sure my skinny friends in rural Ohio would be happy to take public transport to commute to their jobs an hour away in the city, but sadly it just isn’t available.

Lesson learned: If you’re going to scape goat, pick the biggest target and hope that it overwhelms all other possibilites.
